Rawr, baby! |
The Fleshtones debuted in 1976 at CBGBs, but were never fully accepted into the punk/new wave scene that ruled that venue at the time. They found more acceptance in disco-friendly venues where people liked to dance rather than stoically pose to whatever band was onstage. Much like their psychobilly siblings The Cramps, whom The Fleshtones shared a rehearsal space with in the 70s, they were more interested in getting booties moving than looking cool. (Although both groups certainly had/have style to spare, too.) The Fleshtones have even opened for booty-shaking icons James Brown and Chuck Berry!
Check out their latest rockabilly/surf/R&B concoction below, guaranteed to put some scoot in your boot and some hair on your hands. And to see some excellent vintage footage of the band, check out the hour-long documentary about them currently streaming on Prime: Pardon Us for Living, But the Graveyard is Full.
